Introduction and Instructions
Introduction
Blind listening tests, used to compare different versions of the same piece(s) of music, are most effective when the user can switch in real time between the tracks. Set-ups in the past involved synchronized DAT recorders or expensive multi-track sound cards etc. This software only requires a 2 channel sound card.
A standard set-up is a comparison of a track A and a track B with a reference X. This could be for example a piece of music X with the same piece processed or modified in two different ways. It is also possible to compare binaural recordings of e.g. different rooms, cars etc.
It is important that the perceived levels of the three tracks are identical; this was in the past often done by additional hardware. This software uses the built-in mixing device of the sound card; the different levels can be set individually before commencing a listening test.
If there is no reference X or you only want to compare two tracks, tick the 'track comparison' item in the tracks menu.
